Kinderfrau/-betreuer

Kinderfrauen/-betreuer or Nannies are adults who hold children close to their hearts and look after children in the family home on either a full-time or part-time basis. Nannies look after children either in the morning instead of a daycare centre or in the afternoon in addition to a daycare centre. Nannies often have their own children who have already grown up and therefore they have a lot of experience with childcare. They have verified these different experiences with famPLUS and the evidence of this is recorded in their profiles.

The cost of hiring a nanny is between 15 and 20 Euros per hour, depending on the individual scenario. Usually, nannies are hired by private households on a German “Midijob” basis, which means they have to pay social security contributions. It’s important to keep this in mind – you can find more information about this on our parents’ advice pages (in German).

Nannies are a good solution if you want your children to be looked after at home. Most nannies work for the family between 15 and 40 hours per week. Collecting and dropping off the children and light housework can be individually arranged with the nanny, but their main priority is looking after the children. In Germany, hiring a nanny is less common than in other countries, since it is quite an expensive solution.
